## De e-mailauthenticatieprotocollen begrijpen

### SPF (Sender Policy Framework)

SPF geeft aan welke mailservers geautoriseerd zijn om e-mail voor uw domein te verzenden. Het werkt door een DNS TXT-record te publiceren met daarin de goedgekeurde IP-adressen en hostnamen. Ontvangende servers controleren dit record om te verifiëren dat inkomende mail van een geautoriseerde bron komt.

### DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication)

DMARC bindt SPF en DKIM samen en vertelt ontvangende mailservers wat ze moeten doen wanneer geen van beide authenticatiemethoden slaagt - het bericht weigeren, in quarantaine plaatsen of toestaan. Het maakt ook aggregatie- en forensische rapportage mogelijk, zodat domeineigenaren de authenticatieresultaten kunnen monitoren. ### BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification)

BIMI stelt organisaties in staat hun merklogo weer te geven naast geauthenticeerde e-mails in ondersteunende e-mailclients. Het vereist een geldig DMARC-beleid (quarantine of reject) en optioneel een Verified Mark Certificate (VMC) voor logoweergave in Gmail en Apple Mail.

### MTA-STS (Mail Transfer Agent Strict Transport Security)

MTA-STS vertelt verzendende mailservers dat uw domein TLS-versleuteling vereist voor e-mailbezorging. Het voorkomt downgrade-aanvallen en man-in-the-middle-onderschepping door een DNS-record en een beleidsbestand te publiceren die versleutelde verbindingen verplichten.

### TLS-RPT (TLS Reporting)

TLS-RPT stelt ontvangende mailservers in staat om TLS-verbindingsfouten aan u te rapporteren. In combinatie met MTA-STS biedt het inzicht in bezorgingsproblemen die worden veroorzaakt door certificaatfouten, verlopen certificaten of verkeerd geconfigureerde versleuteling.

### "A great solution to a common email problem."

I have been using them for the last month after my Google business email started giving DMARC errors. I didn't even know what it meant at that time. After a little googling I found that people can spoof it as well. So far so good — the best thing is it protects every email.
